Materials and Requirements

Faith and Life (Grades 1st through 8th)

We will be using the Faith and Life Series, published by Ignatius Press. This series has been approved by the Bishop’s Committee on catechetical texts. The program’s scope and sequence as we teach it can be found here.

Baltimore Catechism (3rd Grade – High School). We will use the New St. Joseph Baltimore Catechism for those students who have not received formation in early years or have missed years of faith formation classes. The Baltimore Catechism contains 37 chapters. This material will be supplemented with theological, liturgical, and spiritual information.

Image of God (Kindergarten)

The Kindergarten class uses the Image of God series, also published by Ignatius Press. The teacher will keep their books in the classroom.

Additional Formational Activities

Sacred Scripture plays an important part in the student’s formation. Students in Grades 4th to 8th should have a Bible at home (Bibles are available for classroom use only).  Frequent use of the Sacred Scriptures during class time will acquaint the students with the use of the Bible and provide them with knowledge of God's Word.

Eucharistic Adoration

Recognizing that the Eucharist, the real presence of Jesus Christ: Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, is the source and summit of the life of the Church, the students will participate in monthly Benediction and Eucharistic Adoration.  To teach the children the beauty of Adoration, all grade levels will gather in church the last class of each month for 10 minutes of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

This FF Year we will continue to pray the ROSARY.  It is our goal to instill devotion to the Holy Rosary in the students. Our Blessed Mother asked us to pray the Rosary daily. It is the most efficacious way to Her Immaculate Heart. The Rosary transforms us.  If we want peace in our families and our world let’s ask Our Holy Mother.

This year, we will start each class with praying part of the Rosary.  We’ll pray for the families of our parish and that our Blessed Mother helps all of us grow in holiness and guides us to her Son. It is our hope that by the end of the year, all students would have learned to pray the Rosary and developed a devotion to our Blessed Mother.

Church Etiquette

Catechists will review in class the proper etiquette and behavior to observe while in Church.  Please support us by helping your child follow proper etiquette.

Attendance Requirements:

Class Attendance

Perfect attendance is expected (unless illness or an emergency occurs).  Your child’s promotion to the next level will be based on attendance, class work, evaluations (as applicable), and the catechist’s recommendation.

Please Note: Participation in sports or other programs should never conflict with attendance at Religious Education. Attendance at a sports event cannot be weighed against Religious Instruction.

Mass Attendance

Students are required (as are all Catholics) to attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass weekly (Saturday evening or Sunday) as well as the Holy Days of Obligation. Mass Attendance is recorded for students during the Faith Formation year.
